“Coo yah!” is patois for “Look here!” And when you look, you find a golfer’s paradise: a beautiful private home just steps from the 13th green and 14th tee of the world-class The Tryall Club course, with a long view of the velvet fairway rolling down to the blue Caribbean Sea.

Centrally located is the 66’ heated pool and long terrace with plenty of seating in sun or shade.

Delicious home-cooked meals can be served in the pretty inside dining room, but most guests prefer to dine on the spacious 80’ al fresco verandah for its lovely view. The modern kitchen includes granite countertops, a six-burner gas range, microwave and adjoining butler’s pantry. Chef Angela delights guests with her hot artichoke dip, pate, chestnuts wrapped in bacon blanket, cheese soufflé, (a must-have for lunch), sweet and sour pork, pepper steak, stuffed snapper, lemon bread and rum cake (in addition, of course, to her Jamaican menus including everyone’s favorite, jerk chicken). Artfully coordinated table service varies with each meal.

The Tryall Club Membership

A significant amenity for guests in this villa is membership at the excellent Tryall Club.  On 2,200 acres, Tryall’s golf course is among the most beautiful in the world.  Its 18 hillside and seaside fairways have been home to the Johnnie Walker, Mazda and other PGA championship events.  The resident pro offers workshops and private lessons.   The Tryall tennis club features nine Nova Cushion courts, some lit for night play, with world-class pro’s on call.  All whites required.

The beach is well planned for parents and children. Have lunch at the beach bar.  Work out in the well-equipped gym.  Jog the marked trails. Snorkeling, kayaking, hobie cat and sunfish are complimentary.  Glass bottom boats, charter fishing, a boat to the reef and any captained craft attract various fees.  Enjoy the week’s events, including the Monday Night Manager’s Cocktail Party and the Wednesday and Friday night beach parties (Friday Seafood Night on the Beach Buffet is excellent).

On the hill, enjoy the historic Great House for afternoon tea and a magnificent view from the terrace.  Shop at the commissary and boutique, meet for happy hour at the bar, and browse a wealth of Jamaican, Haitian and Cuban works and souvenirs in the Gallery of West Indian Art.  And don’t miss the massive Tryall pool!

For a great write-up of the Tryall Club, see Dana Vachon's article Club Jamaica in Departures Magazine.

The Tryall Club was chosen by Condé Nast Traveler for its Gold List of "the best places to stay in the whole world.”

Guest Reviews

  • Dear Linda, The staff at Coo Yah enabled us to have an amazing care-free vacation! They are all so warm, friendly, trustworthy and reliable. They seemed to anticipate our needs and they worked together like a symphony. The meals are wonderful. We love the

Jamaica dishes and enjoyed learning the history behind some of them. The meals were much better than any restaurant food found on the island. I would recommend this house with this staff to anyone. David Y., June 2006
