The cut stone shed that housed Good Hope farm equipment 200 years ago is today a cozy three-bedroom home, sturdily built of cut stone walls 18" to 30" thick, hewn timber beams and blue mahoe plank floors. But don't be mislead by the name. This "cottage" also features state-of-the-art remote control air conditioning in all bedrooms, modern plumbing and electricity and a full kitchen. Dramatically renovated in 2001, River Cottage is the marriage of two worlds: 18th Century ambience and contemporary comfort. River Cottage is a ten-minute walk or one-minute drive down the valley from the Good Hope Great House. A short walk leads to the stables and children's playground with swing set and sliding board. Throughout the cottage are original antiques ... carved mahogany beds, buffets and tables from Chippenham Park Great House in St. Ann's Parish. The eclectic design includes unique artistic details complementing the warmth of its antique furnishings ... from the fanciful handmade lampshades and hammered tin wall art to accessories of wrought iron and stone fired by the resident potter. Even the towel rods are art. Perhaps the most relaxing space of all is the comfortable porch trimmed in dwarf bamboo. A walk of 40 feet across the grassy lawn leads to a stairway to the river 100 feet down a wooded path. Here is an other-world fantasy of burbling green water for wonderful swimming and a picnic area for jerk, fish, chicken or lobster. Play in the sunny lagoon or relax in the shade of the bamboo forest If you want to relax to the sounds of birds and a running river ... a time to put your feet up and be still ... all in a remarkable setting ... it is here.
